STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OR DISABILITIES
I also have experience of working with students from years 7 to years 14 {ages of 11-19} in a Special Educational Needs or Disabilities setting.
When I work with any students who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities, the meetings are always unique and personalised to the individual.
For example, if they are non-verbal, I may use pictures or symbols for the client to point at, in order to answer questions. Alternatively, I may use toys and gadgets to get an idea of their fine motor skills and to see what they are capable of, dependant upon client ability. Or, if the student is capable, I can do a simplified version of the careers guidance meeting.
The meetings are described as "transitional sessions" or "preparation for adulthood" and we can discuss {with parents}, next steps in terms of Colleges with SEND provisions, Specialist SEND Colleges, Supported Internships, Day Provisions etc.
